What can we do for you

The Office of the Credit Ombud resolves complaints from consumers and businesses that are negatively impacted by credit bureau information or when a consumer has a dispute with a credit provider, debt counsellor or payment distribution agent.

The Process

THE COMPLAINTS PROCESS EXPLAINED.
There is a process that you are required to follow before lodging a complaint with our office. We can only accept a complaint if you have first lodged it with the relevant body or company. We deal with three different types of complaints:
  • Credit Bureau complaints
  • Non-Bank Credit complaints
  • Debt Counselling complaints
For each type there is a slightly different procedure to follow as set out in the COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE FOR THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPLAINTS.

FAQ's

How do I get a copy of my credit bureau report?
You need to phone the relevant credit bureau and ask for a copy of your bureau report. As per the National Credit Act, you are entitled to one free credit report per year. If you want another report within the same year, you need to pay an administration fee of approximately R20.00 per credit report.
